At a glance
Profile
Research scientist in deep learning for medical imaging, with a PhD (summa cum laude) and almost nine years of software engineering and product work at MathWorks. I build segmentation and dose-prediction models judged by their clinical impact, published at MICCAI, MIDL, ISBI and IEEE EMBC and in Radiotherapy and Oncology, and I am turning them into a product, ContourAId, backed by two competitive translational fellowships.
My PhD established dose-aware quality assurance for radiotherapy contours; my current work extends it in three directions: segmentation models that stay reliable under distribution shift, contour review and correction that accounts for expert variability, and fast dose prediction across tumour sites.
Experience
Venture Fellow, then BRIDGE Proof of Concept Fellow
ARTORG Center, University of Bern · Bern, Switzerland
Lead ContourAId, a platform combining automated contouring, contour quality assurance and real-time dose prediction for faster, safer radiotherapy planning.
- Funded by a University of Bern Venture Fellowship for feasibility and commercialization groundwork and, since 2026, an SNSF/Innosuisse BRIDGE Proof of Concept fellowship to develop it into a product.
- Co-authored DoMa-Seg with PhD student Jihe Li: dose-aware segmentation training with 12% lower dosimetric error on target volumes and 1.8× faster training than a state-of-the-art dose-aware method.
- Program chair of MIART 2026, the first MICCAI workshop on AI in radiation therapy.
Doctoral Researcher
Medical Image Analysis Lab, ARTORG Center, University of Bern · Bern, Switzerland
Advisor: Prof. Mauricio Reyes. In close collaboration with the Departments of Radiation Oncology at Inselspital Bern and the University Hospital Zurich. Co-developed PyRaDiSe, an open-source DICOM-RT auto-segmentation package.
- Showed that a deep-learning dose predictor flags dosimetrically sub-optimal contours better than radiation oncologists (MIDL 2024), after quantifying how often experts misjudge contour impact (Radiotherapy and Oncology 2025).
- Built ASTRA, dose-sensitivity maps that guide contour review (IEEE EMBC 2023), and co-developed a dual-layer QA system that caught 173 of 180 critical organ-at-risk contours while clearing 39% from manual review.
- Showed that extra U-Net skip connections trade robustness for accuracy under texture shift across ultrasound, histology, MRI and CT (MICCAI 2023; Computers in Biology and Medicine 2025).
- Supervised Master’s students and taught Medical Image Analysis.
